Bishop Thomas Eusebius

Missionary Speaker 2023

St. Mary's Cathedral, India

Bishop Thomas Eusebius is the eparch of the newly erected diocese of Parassala.  It was created on August 05, 2017 to serve Nadu Tamil & Kerala.  It is of Syro-Malankar Tradition.  it is comprised of 103 parishes divided into 5 districts, serving 33,000 people.

The Syro-Malankara Church began in 1930 when a section of the Christian Jacobite Church joined the Catholic fold while retaining their liturgical customs.  Unlike the Latin-rite Church where the Pope directly appoints bishops, the synods of the Eastern-rite Catholic churches have the autonomy of appointing their own bishops, to which the Pope gives his assent.

The Catholic Church in India comprises the Latin rite and two Eastern rites, the Syro-Malabar and the Syro-Malankara.  The Latin rite was introduced by European missionaries in the 15th centruy, while the two Eastern rites, both based in Kerala, follow the Syrian Church traditions and trace their origins to St. Thomas the Apostle.

Fr. Abraham Lukose will visit us on the weekend of August 05 & 06, 2023.  He will make a missions appeal on behalf of his home diocese.
